چکیده

Impurity effects are an intricate issue in CO2 geological storage, involving both pre-dissolved impurities the medium and co-injected impurities. Numerical simulations were carried out this study to investigate coupling of H2S different (H2S, CH4 N2) on sequestration layered sour saline aquifers. The native would be exsolved formation brine pushed ahead by injected plume. reduced concentrations gases at two-phase interface. Particularly, when was with into aquifers, dissolved inventory ratio reduce nearly half compared that regular aquifers without H2S. It observed decrease due existence much compensated co-injection or N2. Nevertheless, impurity seemed have more profound than results should considered selecting appropriate sites establishing risk assessment strategies.

Optimization of CO2 Sequestration in Saline Aquifers

For optimization of geological carbon sequestration (GCS) in saline aquifers, a genetic algorithm (GA) based optimizer has been developed and combined with the DOE multi-phase flow and heat transfer numerical simulation code TOUGH2 [1],[2]. Designated GA-TOUGH2, this combined solver/optimizer has been validated by performing optimization studies on a number of model problems and comparing the r...

Coupled Hydromechanical Modeling of Co2 Sequestration in Deep Saline Aquifers

Sequestration of carbon dioxide (CO2) in deep saline aquifers has emerged as an option for reducing greenhouse gas emissions to the atmosphere. The large amounts of supercritical CO2 that need to be injected into deep saline aquifers may cause large fluid pressure increases. The resulting overpressure may promote reactivation of sealed fractures or the creation of new ones in the caprock seal. ...

Efficient Parallel Simulation of CO2 Geologic Sequestration in Saline Aquifers

An efficient parallel simulator for large-scale, long-term CO2 geologic sequestration in saline aquifers has been developed. The parallel simulator is a three-dimensional, fully implicit model that solves large, sparse linear systems arising from discretization of the partial differential equations for mass and energy balance in porous and fractured media. The simulator is based on the ECO2N mo...

CO2 Sequestration in Deep Aquifers

Disposal and long-term sequestration of anthropogenic "greenhouse gases" such as CO2 is a proposed approach to reducing global warming. Deep, regional-scale aquifers in sedimentary basins are possible sites for sequestration, given their ubiquitous nature. We used a mathematical sedimentary basin model, including multiphase flow of CO2, groundwater, and brine, to evaluate residence times in pos...
